The treasurer's department assists the city manager in the budget preparation and works with the city's independent auditors to complete the annual audit.

The treasurer's department is responsible for the collection and distribution of all municipal funds for the city and includes the safekeeping and investing of funds. The city is the property tax collection agency for various taxing units – County, State Education, Tawas Area Schools, and Intermediate (IRESA) School District – along with city taxes.
