Mayor Pro Tem Dickman called the regular meeting of the Tawas City Council to order at 7:30 p.m. at the Tawas Community Center.

Mayor Pro Tem Dickman offered the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and a moment of meditation.
Stonehouse moved, Schantz seconded, CARRIED, to accept the agenda of the March 16, 2009 regular council meeting. ROLL CALL VOTE: Yes - Brugger, Dickman, Kelly, Schantz, Stonehouse, Babcock. No - None.
Brugger moved, Stonehouse seconded, CARRIED, to approve the minutes of the March 2, 2009 regular meeting as presented. ROLL CALL VOTE: Yes - Dickman, Kelly, Schantz, Stonehouse, Babcock, Brugger. No - None.
Stonehouse moved, Kelly seconded, CARRIED, to approve the Claim Sheet 031609 as presented. ROLL CALL VOTE: Yes - Kelly, Schantz, Stonehouse, Babcock, Brugger, Dickman. No - None.
Brugger moved, Stonehouse seconded, CARRIED, to approve the Tawas Hardware bill in the amount of $152.90. ROLL CALL VOTE: Yes - Schantz, Stonehouse, Babcock, Brugger, Dickman, Kelly. No - None.
City Manager Moers updated the Council on the Downtown Redevelopment Project and the Fire Station.
City Manager Moers thanked Councilmember Babcock and Councilmember Schantz for representing the Council and the City by attending Chief Dennis Frank's retirement party.
City Manager Moers reported the improvements to the baseball diamonds this spring are budget items. The improvements will be guards placed on the top of the fences, replace a backstop, and the city will provide the materials to have volunteers raise the dugouts.
City Manager Moers reported the DPW would obtain permits to finish the pergola at the Library Pocket Park this spring.
City Manager Moers and Councilmember Brugger meet with Russo Engineer to seek an engineering proposal for the Gateway Park Fishing Pier Project.
City Manager Moers reported that Don Seymour of Seymour Carpets, Inc. has applied for a peddler's license to set up a tent in the Neiman's parking lot for a week in April to have a mattress sale. Kelly moved, Stonehouse seconded, CARRIED, to approve the peddler's license for Don Seymour to hold a mattress sale in Neiman's parking lot in April. ROLL CALL VOTE: Yes - Stonehouse, Babcock, Brugger, Dickman, Kelly, Schantz. No - None.
Mayor Pro Tem Dickman stated Look Logging Inc. proposed to pay $9,000.00 to timber the 40 acres of land the city owns on Whittemore/Oates road. The City will notify the State of Michigan regarding removing the deed restriction or if they would like to acquire the property back. Schantz moved, Kelly seconded, CARRIED, to approve Look Logging Inc. to timber the 40 acres on Whittemore/Oates road and pay the City $9,000.00. ROLL CALL VOTE: Yes - Babcock, Brugger, Dickman, Kelly, Schantz, Stonehouse. No - None.
Mayor Pro Tem Dickman reported that Rob Nordin was present to address the Council regarding helping Tawas City out with economic development. Rob Nordin offered his experience and knowledge of 35 years in economic work with community development. Rob Nordin suggested meeting with the City Manager Moers to brainstorm ideas to help grow the community and report the ideas to the Council. The consensus of the Council was to have the City Manager work with Rob Nordin.
Councilmember Babcock has some ideas to utilize the 110 acres by 6th Street. He suggested a community garden and dog walking for residents.
The next regular meeting of the Tawas City Council is scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the Tawas City Hall.
